What We TREAT

Pterygium

Pterygium is a degeneration of the conjunctiva, the transparent membrane that covers the surface of the eye.

They typically appear in areas exposed to the area between the upper and lower eyelids and are most common on the nasal side.

Symptoms of Pterygium:

  • A slightly raised pink growth on your eye.
  • Red, irritated, or swollen eyes.
  • Dry eyes, itchy eyes, or burning eyes.
  • Feeling like you have sand or grit in your eye.
  • Teary eyes.
  • Increase in the size and spread of the lesion.
  • Blurred vision or double vision if pterygium grows onto your cornea.

Treatment of Pterygium:

You may not need treatment if you don’t have discomfort or pain and it doesn’t interfere with your vision. However, surgical removal may be necessary if symptoms persist or vision is affected.
