What We TREAT

Retinal Detachment

Retinal detachment occurs when the neurosensory retina separates from the pigmentary epithelium and liquid accumulates in the space between them.

This means nutrition and blood flow to the neurosensory retina is cut off, which can lead to irreversible vision loss.

Symptoms of Retinal Detachment:

  • Eye floaters (myodesopsia).
  • Flashes of light (photopsia).
  • Dark curtain gradually covering eyesight.
  • Seeing distorted images with reduced visual acuity, especially when the central part of the retina (macula) is affected.

Treatment of Retinal Detachment:

Treatment is almost always surgery. There are two surgical techniques that can be used separately or combined:

  • Scleral buckle surgery
  • Pars plana vitrectomy
